Just over a year ago we began working on this project, funded by the Global Challenges Research Fund, to investigate and to imagine, possibilities and alternatives which could help transform the teaching-learning architecture of education. Why education? What sort of alternatives and possibilities? What kind of imaginaries? A year on, the time has come to share and make public our "investigations." When we started, we had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. This is the place where we will share some, not all, of what we got ourselves into. You can follow this website via its RSS feed or tune into the podcast. This site is meant not just as a repository of information; we're going to try and keep it as interactive as possible. While the project is officially over, the conversations around it are still ongoing. We hope that these conversations, and the materials generated around these conversations, will make for interesting reading for some, if not all of you.

The Transforming Education for Sustainable Futures (TESF) Network is an international collaborative research project aimed at developing a deeper understanding of how education systems can act as catalysts for sustainable development.
Initiated in November 2019 and scheduled to run until April 2023, the project is funded by the Global Challenges Research Fund through the Economic and Social Research Council Network Plus scheme. The University of Bristol coordinates the project, collaborating with partners in India, Rwanda, Somalia/Somaliland, and South Africa. TESF's research addresses the role of education in climate action, decent work, and sustainable cities. The network also takes on cross-cutting themes of poverty, gender, and the status of indigenous knowledge. An important focus is to bring forward marginalized voices and to decolonize research. The ultimate goal is to help policymakers, practitioners, and community-based organizations implement transformative and sustainable educational policies and practices. But TESF's mission doesn't halt at research. It aims to translate its findings into actionable and impactful resolutions. By developing new knowledge to aid education policymakers, practitioners, and non-governmental and community-based organizations, TESF is instrumental in implementing transformative policies and practices in education. The ultimate vision? To foster equitable, just, and environmentally sustainable development. A crucial part of this network is the TESF India, which is anchored at the Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) in Bangalore. This section of the network has the goal of developing sustainable institutional capacity in India through the production of high-quality research. Their work aims to assist key stakeholders to better understand how education systems can be transformed to support sustainable development. TESF India has been involved in various projects and activities, including the creation of a podcast series discussing the impact of the pandemic on the education, livelihood, and health of the most vulnerable and marginalized sections of Indian society. They've issued funding calls to support projects in the areas of School, Higher and Teacher Education, Climate Action, and Sustainable Cities. TESF India focuses on key areas such as exploring concerns across the sectors of school, higher, and teacher education, development of sustainable cities and communities, and action for addressing climate change. Some of their research themes include examining how education sustains and perpetuates social, gender, economic, environmental, and epistemic injustice; the impact of various inequalities on the development of disadvantaged learners; transforming education to develop critical knowledge and capacities towards a socially and environmentally sustainable society; and the exploration of post-COVID urban futures in the context of sustainable cities and communities and education for sustainable development. TESF is more than just a network - it is a catalyst for change, pushing for an equitable, socially just, and environmentally sustainable future through the transformative power of education.
